Iranian Oil Minister Visits Russia for High-Level Economic Talks

24 April

Iran’s Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, has arrived in Russia to take part in the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, according to a report from Shana news agency.

During his visit, Paknejad is scheduled to meet with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev on Thursday.

Working groups from both countries began their meetings on April 23 as part of the broader commission framework. On Friday, Paknejad and Tsivilev are expected to review and summarize the outcomes of two days of expert-level negotiations. “Following today's talks, the working groups will submit numerous cooperation documents for signing by the co-chairs of the commission—namely, the Iranian Oil Minister and the Russian Energy Minister,” Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali wrote on X.

Earlier, on April 22, Jalali noted that the commission aims to develop a 20-year roadmap for expanding bilateral ties, building on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed in January 2025 during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow.

The treaty provides a legal framework for long-term cooperation across a wide range of sectors and cements the status of Iran and Russia as strategic partners.
