Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin and Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk recently met to discuss agricultural cooperation, focusing on the readiness of both countries' information systems to manage agricultural imports and exports. According to Kazakhstan's government press service, the talks highlighted the mutual readiness of the electronic systems to exchange veterinary and plant quarantine data.
The next phase involves interstate testing of Kazakhstan's information system by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Upon successful testing and integration, the unified online database will grant both countries access to import, export, and transit permits, as well as a registry of certified agricultural production, processing, and storage facilities. This integration is expected to streamline export and import procedures for plant and livestock products.
The meeting also addressed restrictions imposed by Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's agricultural oversight agency, on certain agricultural imports from Kazakhstan. Both sides proposed measures to resolve and lift these restrictions, which will be further reviewed by agricultural sector specialists.
Additionally, Kazakhstan indicated its intention to soon lift import and transit restrictions on pork from 16 more Russian regions. Safety assessments of these regions have been completed, and time requirements have elapsed. Earlier in 2024, Kazakhstan had gradually removed such restrictions for 43 Russian regions, starting in January.
