From January to August, Kazakhstan significantly increased its imports of Russian goods across several key sectors, according to an analysis of data from Kazakhstan's Bureau of National Statistics.
During this period, Kazakhstan's purchases of Russian energy products rose by over 13% to approximately $1.25 billion, compared to about $1.1 billion in the same timeframe of 2024.
Imports of Russian chemical products saw a 2% increase, reaching over $2 billion, while purchases of Russian wood products also grew by 2% to $483.2 million.
The most substantial growth occurred in textiles and footwear sectors. Kazakhstan's imports of Russian textiles and related products surged by 47% to $602.9 million, while purchases of Russian footwear and haberdashery jumped 45% to $71.3 million.
However, not all categories saw growth. Kazakhstan reduced its imports of Russian construction materials by about 10% to $186.6 million during the reporting period.
