Kazakhstan Ready to Provide Land for Russian Gas Pipeline to China

25 November

Astana has expressed interest in a potential project to transport Russian gas to China through Kazakhstan and is prepared to offer its territory for the construction of the pipeline if Moscow and Beijing reach an agreement,  Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Almasadam Satkaliyev, said during a briefing with journalists.

“This project is within the purview of Russia and China, which must first determine the basic parameters for its implementation. Kazakhstan is undoubtedly interested in the realization of this project. We are ready to provide our territory for the pipeline route,” said Satkaliyev.

The minister emphasized that Kazakhstan's agreement to provide its land would depend on the inclusion of certain conditions, specifically the supply of up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas to the domestic market at a mutually agreed price.

In October, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak revealed at the ROSTKI ('Sprouts'): Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation international forum that Moscow and Beijing are exploring a new gas supply route that could pass through Kazakhstan. According to Novak, this route could handle deliveries of up to 35 billion cubic meters of gas.
