Kazakhstan increased its imports of Russian fuel and energy products in 2025, rising by nearly 25% to $2.26 billion, while in 2024, the value of these imports stood at just over $1.8 billion, according to data from the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan analyzed by TASS.
In contrast, Kazakhstan’s energy exports to Russia remained almost unchanged: in 2025 – $471.9 million, and $471.8 million in 2024.
Purchases of timber and paper products also increased by approximately 13%, reaching $802.7 million in 2025 compared to $711.2 million in 2024. Conversely, Kazakhstan's exports of these products to Russia dropped by 7.5% to $32.4 million.
The construction sector followed a different trend, as Kazakhstan slashed its imports of Russian building materials by nearly 30%, falling to $281.9 million from over $401.2 million the year before. At the same time, Kazakhstan managed to grow its own construction material exports to Russia by 21%, totaling nearly $72 million.
While these official figures are reported in US dollars, the vast majority of trade between the two countries is conducted in their national currencies.
