In January, Russia increased its pipeline gas supplies to Turkey by 3.7%, reaching 2.78 billion cubic meters, according to TASS calculations based on Eurostat data.
According to Eurostat data — which is almost fully aligned with statistics from Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) — Turkey imported a total of 2.781 billion cubic meters of Russian gas through the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines in January, the third-highest monthly volume in history.
For the full year 2024, Russia increased its pipeline gas exports to Turkey by 2.6%, surpassing 21 billion cubic meters. Taking into account liquefied natural gas (LNG), Russia’s total gas exports to Turkey exceeded 21.5 billion cubic meters.
Just recently, Gazprom reported that February saw an all-time record for monthly gas consumption in Turkey, exceeding 8 billion cubic meters. According to Gazprom’s estimates based on data from EPIAS, Turkey’s energy exchange, gas consumption in Turkey between November and February also hit a record high, surpassing 30 billion cubic meters. Furthermore, according to statements from Botas, Turkey twice broke its daily gas consumption record in February, reaching 333.7 million cubic meters in a single day.
Russia supplies gas to Turkey through two pipelines across the Black Sea. The Blue Stream pipeline, commissioned in early 2003, has a design capacity of 16 billion cubic meters per year and a total length of 1,213 kilometers. The TurkStream export pipeline consists of two parallel pipelines, one delivering gas directly to Turkish consumers and the other supplying Southern and Southeastern Europe. The total capacity of TurkStream is 31.5 billion cubic meters, and the pipeline went into operation in January 2020.
Earlier, TASS, citing data from ENTSOG, reported that gas supplies to Europe via TurkStream increased by 23% in 2024, reaching 16.7 billion cubic meters. Moreover, in January and February 2025, Russia increased supplies via TurkStream by more than 25% compared to the same period last year, reaching 3.1 billion cubic meters.
