Turkey expressed its interest in organizing the production of the "Sputnik V" vaccine against the new coronavirus at its pharmaceutical manufacturers' facilities. This was reported to journalists on Wednesday in the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation after negotiations between the Minister of Healthcare Mikhail Murashko and his Turkish counterpart Fahrettin Koja.
"The parties discussed the situation with the spread of the new coronavirus infection, separately focusing on the development of vaccines to prevent COVID-19. The head of the Ministry of Health of Turkey expressed interest in organizing the production of vaccine "Sputnik V" at the facilities of Turkish pharmaceutical manufacturers after toxicological studies provided by local legislation," the Ministry noted.
During the meeting, Mr. Murashko also assured Koju of the readiness to organize toxicological tests in a certified laboratory. "The parties agreed to start implementing the agreements in the coming days," the press service added.
On August 11, Russia was the first in the world to register a coronavirus vaccine called "Sputnik V". The preparation was developed by the National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N. F. Gamaleya of the Russian Ministry of Health and passed clinical trials in June and July. Earlier the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev stated that Russia had already received applications from 20 countries for the supply of 1 billion doses of vaccine.
