Oman Signals Readiness for Oil and Gas Partnerships with Russia

20 January

Oman is prepared to expand its cooperation with Russia through joint projects in the oil and gas sector, while signaling a keen interest in Russian green energy and hydrogen technologies. This follows a high-level working meeting between Russia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mikhail Ivanov, and Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi.

"The Omani side reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration and the implementation of joint ventures in the oil and gas industry," the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reported. "Furthermore, Oman expressed interest in Russian innovations regarding green energy and hydrogen power."

The two nations have already finalized and approved a strategic cooperation roadmap. A central pillar of this agreement is the adoption of INTI (Institute for International Inter-Industrial Standards) standards across Oman’s industrial sectors. These standards are designed to streamline the entry of Russian technologies into Omani tenders. To date, eight such standards have been synchronized, according to ministry officials.

Under the current roadmap, the parties aim to increase the number of harmonized INTI standards to 30 by the end of the first half of 2026. Additionally, the plan seeks to ensure that at least five Russian products, certified under the INTI framework, participate in tenders issued by leading Omani corporations.

"The approved roadmap and the INTI mechanism provide a solid foundation for tangible projects," stated Mikhail Ivanov. "In parallel, we are ready to offer Oman comprehensive solutions in renewable energy and storage systems, including high-efficiency solar panels and other domestic innovations."
