Pakistan and Russia Plan Long-Term Cooperation

Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, has outlined Pakistan's intention to establish long-term and comprehensive cooperation with Russia in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, food security, energy, and defense. This was communicated to First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Vladimir Chizhov, during his visit to Pakistan.

 

Afridi highlighted the significance of Russian aid in attracting foreign investment to Pakistan's economy through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) mechanism. He expressed the desire for stronger institutional ties, improved inter-parliamentary relations, and enhanced people-to-people contacts to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

 

Chizhov is in Pakistan observing the parliamentary elections, which began at  08:00 local time (06:00 Moscow time). The most promising political alliances for the upcoming elections are the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz faction) and the Pakistan People's Party.
