Port of Berdyansk started to receive grain for shipment

21 June 2022

Agrarians of Zaporizhzhia region have started bringing grain to the port of Berdyansk to resume shipments by sea, the main importers of Zaporizhzhia grain are Middle Eastern, Turkish, African, and North American grain traders, despite the sanctions. Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the military-civil administration of the Zaporizhzhia region, told TASS.

"Grain is brought into the port for further shipments. There is a lot of grain needed - it is not one car and not even one train, we are talking about thousands of tons. Now the main buyers of our grain are the Middle East, African countries, Turkey and a lot of traders, including North American traders. This once again confirms the duplicity and hypocrisy of the Americans: officially they impose sanctions, but in spite of the imposed sanctions, they are going to make money on the grain market. Certain volumes are already contracted", Rogov said.

As for the North American grain traders, Rogov noted that the companies in question are registered in the United States and Canada.

Earlier Yevgeny Balitsky, head of the civil-military administration (CMA) of the region, said that the stock of grain accumulated on the liberated territory of last year's harvest is 1.5 million tons. A part of it is planned to be exported, while another part will be processed or included into the grain reserve.

The day before CMA reported that the harvesting campaign of winter wheat has started in the liberated territory of Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhia region, and the forecast grain harvest in 2022 there will be about 2 million tons. Grain harvesting campaign in other liberated territories of the region will start in the next few days. The authorities of the liberated territory of Zaporizhzhia region assist farmers in removing the accumulated remains of last year's harvest and do not intend to limit their choice of markets for grain.

Earlier, the first train with grain from Melitopol arrived in Crimea, and the first vessels from Berdyansk are planned to be sent in the near future.
