03 December 2020

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) is negotiating with Egypt and Nigeria on the production of coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V",  head of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev said during the presentation of the vaccine at the event in the margins of a special session of UNGA.

"We are discussing production with Egypt and we are having discussions with Nigeria," he said.

Dmitriev noted that the Fund would continue working with African countries to supply and produce the vaccine.

In August, the Russian Ministry of Health registered the world's first vaccine to prevent COVID-19 developed by the Gamaleya Research Center. It was named "Sputnik V". The vaccine was developed on a studied and proven platform of human adenoviral vectors, the important advantages of which are safety, efficiency and absence of long-term negative consequences.

At the end of September, the RDIF and Pharco, one of Egypt's leading pharmaceutical groups, agreed to supply 25 million doses of Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to the country. Thanks to the agreement between the RDIF and Pharco 25% of Egyptian population will have access to the vaccine.
