22 November 2022

Rosatom State Corporation is ready to offer projects of floating nuclear power plants in order to supply electricity to Indonesia. Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom and Director of Development and International Business Unit, said this on Tuesday during a press conference on the margins of the Atomexpo 2022 international forum.

"Indonesia already has floating power plants. <...> These platforms produce electricity either from coal or gas. This is a good source of energy supply, but it is a source of energy supply with all the advantages as well as all the disadvantages, because neither coal nor gas is a clean energy source in the full sense of the word," Komarov said. - "What can Rosatom offer? These are the same kind of floating plants which will have nuclear reactors. Their main advantage is going to be their environmental friendliness, and the second one is the absolute predictability of the price."

The first deputy head of Rosatom noted that in the case of gas and coal-fired plants, the cost of electricity is highly dependent on the prices of resources.
