Russia and Malaysia are actively negotiating the resumption of direct flights between the two countries, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Vladimir Ilyichev said during a meeting with Nur Jazlan bin Mohamed, Deputy President of the Malaysian Senate.
“We’re currently in active discussions to resume direct air service. There is clear interest from both sides,” Ilyichev said, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economic Development.
He noted that the recent growth in inbound tourism to Russia has been supported by the introduction of electronic visas. In the first quarter of 2025, the number of Malaysian tourists visiting Russia doubled to 1,500. Meanwhile, Russian travel to Malaysia increased by 17% over the same period, reaching 50,000 visitors.
