Russia and Oman have agreed to establish a joint intergovernmental commission to boost trade, economic, and technical cooperation. The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at the Kremlin, attended by President Vladimir Putin and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
The newly signed protocol updates a previous agreement, clarifying Article 6, which previously mentioned the creation of a commission but lacked specific details. The revised article now clearly states the formation of a dedicated Russia-Oman commission focused on advancing bilateral cooperation in key sectors.
The commission, to be chaired by a Russian federal minister, will work to expand economic and technical collaboration, identify new areas of partnership, strengthen ties between private enterprises and small-to-medium-sized businesses, and facilitate information sharing in investment and economic policy. It will also promote regulatory best practices, foster a favorable business climate, and support participation in exhibitions, forums, and conferences.
Scheduled meetings of the commission will take place every two years, alternating between Russia and Oman, with provisions for additional sessions when needed. Specialized subcommittees and working groups may also be established to address specific areas of collaboration.
