Russia and Turkmenistan increased trade turnover by more than a third in 2020

The trade turnover between Russia and Turkmenistan in 2020 increased by more than a third, amounting to almost $1 billion, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said at the meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Economic Cooperation Commission.


"In 2020, Russian-Turkmen trade turnover increased by 39.6% compared with 2019 and amounted to almost $1 billion. The volume of Russian exports increased by 19.6% and imports doubled," the Russian government website reported following a meeting between Overchuk and Turkmen co-chairman of the commission, Rashid Meredov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdymukhamedov.


The sides discussed trade, economic and inter-regional cooperation, bilateral cooperation in healthcare, industry, transport, finance, education and other fields.


The government called an important factor in expanding bilateral cooperation the program of economic cooperation between the governments of the countries for 2021-2023 under development. The report stressed that the work on the implementation of the instructions of the 11th meeting of the Russian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation of May 7, 2019.


During the meeting, the parties signed an intergovernmental agreement to promote interregional cooperation, as well as an agreement on cooperation in the implementation of International Medical Sanitary Regulations between the Russian Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and an agreement on cooperation between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Turkmenistan and PJSC "Transkapitalbank".


In addition, a memorandum between the Russian Federal Customs Service and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan on the exchange of statistical data on mutual trade and a protocol between the Russian Federal Customs Service and the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan on the exchange of documents and information on the customs value of goods transported between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan were concluded.
