Russia and Uzbekistan signed contracts worth $8.9 billion at interregional forum

The second Russian-Uzbek interregional forum and the preparatory work for it resulted in agreements totaling $8.9 billion, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov told journalists following the forum.


"During the last days of the forum alone, 28 agreements with a volume of financing totaling $ 3.6 billion were signed. 113 projects are still being discussed and there are memorandums and approaches but the negotiations are still in progress and there are interim documents that total approximately $ 3.7 billion. Also for last month and a half within the limits of preparation to a forum and bilateral intensive visits 450 trading-export contracts on $1,6 billion have been signed. Here is the volume of those contracts which for the last month, maybe, a little bit more within the limits of preparation to a forum have been signed - almost $9 billion", Reshetnikov has told.


The minister emphasized that signed agreements are not one-time nature, but represent "the established system of cooperation" at the level of the regions of Russia and Uzbekistan".


Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov agreed with the position of the Russian minister, noting the "industrial and system" nature of the whole project cycle within the forum. "Now we already have a joint project office, which [accompanies the project] from the project idea to concrete implementation. Today we have agreed that during the post-implementation period, it will also support all of these projects and all of these trade contracts. That is, we are moving to a qualitatively different level of cooperation," added Umurzakov.


He also said that at the end of this year the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia could exceed $6 billion.


Earlier, during the forum, the head of Russian MED, Maxim Reshetnikov said that in the first nine months of 2021 the bilateral turnover between the countries increased by 6.5% in annual terms to $4.5 billion and in 2020 the volume of turnover reached $5.9 billion.
