Russia Engages in Water Management Dialogue with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan

25 March

Despite not sharing transborder rivers with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation maintains a consistent dialogue with these nations regarding water issues, Maxim Korolkov, Russia's Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, said at the International Forum "Tashkent Water Week 2026" currently being held in Tashkent.

According to him, Russia currently has examples of successful cooperation in the water sector with neighboring countries such as Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, and Mongolia. This collaboration facilitates the rational and fair use of water resources and the implementation of modern technologies for their sustainable and efficient management.

"Despite not sharing transborder rivers, we maintain a regular dialogue at various levels with the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, and the Republic of Tajikistan. We participate in joint events, exchange expertise, and operate an active system of joint working bodies, with over 50 joint working group meetings held annually on priority areas," Korolkov said.

The primary theme of the Tashkent forum is "Technologies and Innovations in Water Resources Management: Central Asia and the Global Water Cycle," organized by the Government of Uzbekistan. The event is expected to provide a unique platform for exchanging experiences, discussing innovative approaches, and developing joint strategies for water resource management. The program consists of 16 sessions featuring 80 speakers and over 1,200 delegates from 19 countries, including Austria, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Finland, France, Switzerland, and Sweden.

According to the organizers' vision, the forum's program is structured as a comprehensive platform that unites all levels of the professional community — from government representatives and international organizations to businesses, the scientific community, and young researchers. This structure is designed to foster a synergy between science, practice, and business, creating the necessary conditions to effectively implement scientific advancements into real-world industrial solutions.
