Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is aiming to launch a joint industrial park in Azerbaijan next year, according to Deputy Minister and State Secretary Roman Chekushev. He shared the update during an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the Innoprom. Central Asia exhibition in Tashkent.
“This year, we hope to initiate operations at an industrial park in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. This will mark our first collaborative project with our Azerbaijani partners. We’re confident it will attract interest from Russian businesses,” Chekushev said.
Currently, Russian companies are managing two industrial parks in Uzbekistan—in the cities of Chirchik and Jizzakh. Two more parks, in Navoi and Bukhara, are expected to open later this year. Another industrial site is being planned in the Tashkent region, also to be managed by a Russian firm.
Additionally, Russia and Tajikistan have agreed to begin redeveloping the site of a former machine-building plant in Dushanbe into a new industrial park. Several companies have already expressed interest in becoming resident tenants of the site.
