Russia is interested in constructing new power plants in Tajikistan with the participation of Russian companies, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told the Russia-1 TV channel.
"As you know, Russia has already invested in the construction of the Sangtuda Hydropower Plant in Tajikistan. We are also interested in building new power plants with the involvement of our companies, as well as in repairing, upgrading, and modernizing existing hydropower facilities, given Tajikistan's vast water potential," Novak said.
He added that during the March 17 meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, the two leaders discussed further cooperation in this sector.
Currently, Russia actively supports Tajikistan’s energy sector, covering nearly all of the country’s hydrocarbon needs and assisting in the development of hydropower, President Putin noted during the meeting.
