Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has met with Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Fadillah Yusof to discuss bilateral trade and humanitarian cooperation during ASEAN events in Malaysia.
Overchuk praised Kuala Lumpur's constructive approach to advancing Russia-ASEAN dialogue, emphasizing that deepening cooperation with the Association remains a consistent priority for Russia's international economic relations.
Both sides noted significant potential for expanding and diversifying bilateral trade. Trade turnover between January-August 2025 grew by 32.1% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching $2.47 billion.
Russia identified opportunities to increase exports of energy resources, pharmaceuticals, and industrial equipment—including medical devices—to Malaysia. Considerable export potential also exists for various agricultural products, particularly grains and livestock products.
Humanitarian cooperation forms another important pillar of bilateral relations. Collaborative agreements are being implemented between Russian and Malaysian universities, and both countries are interested in developing tourism. Malaysia is included in the list of countries eligible for Russia's unified electronic visa for business, tourism, and participation in scientific, cultural, and sporting events.
