Russia Supplies Egypt with Unprecedented 10 Million Tons of Grain in 2024

11 June

Russia became Egypt’s largest grain supplier in 2024, delivering over 10 million tons—a record amount unmatched by any other country in the world, according to Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko.

“Russia is Egypt’s biggest wheat exporter and supplied more than 10 million tons here last year. This is an unprecedented figure, as no other country has purchased grain in such volumes, and Russia hasn’t sold this much wheat to any other state,” Borisenko told a TASS correspondent. He also noted that Russian wheat is widely used in bread production in Egypt and expressed hope that cooperation between Moscow and Cairo in this area will continue to grow.

On May 15, Tatyana Menlikeyeva, head of the regional branch of Russia’s Federal Center for the Safety and Quality Assessment of Agricultural Products in Tatarstan, announced at the Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum that Russia exported 64 million tons of grain and grain products to 40 Muslim countries during 2024.

She highlighted Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Libya as the primary markets, which together accounted for 74% of Russia’s total grain exports.

Menlikeyeva also stated that wheat made up the bulk of shipments—44 million tons sent to 36 Muslim-majority countries—followed by barley, totaling 6.6 million tons.
