Russia will send an interdepartmental delegation to Egypt to assess the epidemic situation in the country, preventive measures in tourist resorts, as well as the capacity of laboratories and medical facilities, the Rospotrebnadzor press service told reporters on Tuesday.

"Due to cancellation of limitations on flights from Russia to Egyptian resorts and in order to ensure health protection of Russian tourists it was agreed to send Russian interdepartmental delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt for joint evaluation of the epidemiological situation, preventive measures in places of tourists' accommodation, capacities of laboratories and medical facilities", the message says.

On Tuesday, Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova with the participation of Head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova held negotiations with the Egyptian delegation, headed by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt Khaled Al-Anani. It was noted that an important issue is to ensure a safe and comfortable stay of tourists in the republic.

In addition, the Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health of Egypt will soon prepare and sign a memorandum on cooperation in the fight against infections.

On July 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the 2015 year decree banning Russian airlines from flying to Egyptian resorts. Prior to that, air travel between Russia and Egypt was completely stopped in November 2015 after the crash of a plane of the Russian company Kogalymavia flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg in Sinai. There were 217 passengers and 7 crew members on board, all of whom died. The FSB qualified the incident as an act of terrorism.
