Russia and Malaysia are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, Russian Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur Nail Latypov said.
According to him, Malaysian government agencies are still discussing the country’s nuclear-energy program, but Moscow hopes key decisions will be made soon. “This would provide a solid basis for cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” he noted, as quoted by the Bernama agency.
Latypov added that Russia is ready to conclude all necessary memorandums and agreements with Malaysia to support collaboration across a wide range of nuclear-related areas — from power generation and technology transfer to regulatory development.
On June 27, Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Fadillah Yusof, met in Moscow with Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom CEO, to discuss potential areas of cooperation and outline concrete steps for advancing it. During the visit, the Malaysian delegation toured the Leningrad NPP to familiarize themselves with Rosatom’s technologies. Earlier reports also noted Malaysia’s interest in Russian floating nuclear power plants.
