Russia and Turkey are taking decisive steps to resolve bilateral trade challenges triggered by Western sanctions, Alexander Kalachev, the Russian Consul General in Istanbul, said TASS on February 10, 2026, in honor of Diplomatic Workers' Day.
"Russian-Turkish trade and economic relations are indeed facing certain difficulties amid intensifying sanction pressure from Western nations, which complicates financial settlements and logistics," the diplomat stated. "However, both sides are taking active measures to navigate these restrictive measures."
Kalachev emphasized that the relationship remains anchored by strong institutional cooperation and a mutual reliance on trade.
"Our relevant agencies have established a constructive and professional level of interaction," the consul general noted. "Russia and Turkey continue to serve as vital trade partners for one another. Regular high-level contacts allow us to respond promptly to any emerging issues. Russia and Turkey are not merely 'overcoming' financial difficulties in a single moment; rather, we are learning to live and work under the conditions of large-scale sanctions against Russia. Both parties maintain the political will and economic interest necessary to give our bilateral cooperation a more pragmatic and resilient character."
