Russia is ready to provide oil to Pakistan at a reduced cost, if there is an official request from Islamabad, Andrey Fedorov, Russian Consul General in Karachi, said at a press conference on Thursday.
"Russia is interested in supplying cheap oil to friendly countries, including Pakistan," Dunya News TV quoted him as saying Thursday evening. - "If the Pakistani government contacts us, we will provide cheap oil."
The consul general confirmed that the purchase of Russian oil had been discussed during former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's visit to Moscow, but no final agreement had been reached. He noted, with reference to the Islamic Republic's Minister of Finance and Revenue, Miftah Ismail, that the main obstacle to oil supplies is the "unfair sanctions" imposed by the West against Russia. Despite external pressure, relations between Moscow and Islamabad remain at a "very good level," Fedorov added.
Last week, in an interview with CNN, Pakistani Finance and Revenue Minister Miftah Ismail said that Islamabad is willing to consider buying Russian oil at lower prices if there is a proper offer and no secondary sanctions.
