Tajikistan and Rosatom to Build Solar Power Plants

15 October

Tajikistan's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and Rosatom's renewable energy subsidiary have signed a memorandum to construct solar power plants in the republic with a total capacity of up to 500 MW. The signing ceremony took place on October 14 during the Dushanbe Invest 2025 international investment forum.

According to the ministry's Telegram channel, similar protocols and memoranda for building solar power plants in Tajik regions were also signed with Chinese companies Wuhan Building Material Industry and Ejing Technology, Vietnam's ROX Group, and Tajik firm Ayon Energy.

In October, Energy Minister Daler Juma stated that Tajikistan aims to have at least 2,000 MW of solar and wind power capacity operational by 2030.

The move follows July comments by Deputy Energy Minister Manuchehr Safarzoda about plans to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Rosatom for wind energy development in Tajikistan, aimed at diversifying the country's power generation sources.

This initiative supports President Emomali Rahmon's directive to transform Tajikistan into a “green” country by 2037 through renewable energy development, afforestation programs, and transitioning public transport and taxis to electric vehicles. Currently, about 98% of Tajikistan's electricity comes from hydropower, though the government plans significant expansion of solar and wind capacity.
