Tajikistan and Russia will resume passenger rail service from August 30, 2022. Such an agreement was reached between the relevant agencies, Anvar Latifov, head of the secretariat of the "Tajikistan Railways" (TJR) state unitary enterprise, told TASS on Tuesday.
"The agreement on the resumption of the railway passenger service between Tajikistan and Russia has been reached, all the necessary documents have been signed with the Russian side, the first train will leave on August 30 on the route Dushanbe - Volgograd and back," said a representative of the TJR. He noted that the duration of the journey will be approximately 2.5 days, the trips will take place on a weekly basis. "The second route from Khujand to Volgograd will open on September 7," Latifov added. The fare, he said, is still being clarified, after which tickets will be sold.
On Monday, the official website of "Russian Railways" reported that from August 30, the railway passenger service between Russia and Tajikistan, temporarily suspended since March 17, 2020, will be resumed. The report specified that the train between Dushanbe and Volgograd will run once a week - from Dushanbe the train will depart on Tuesdays and from Volgograd on Fridays.
