Tatarstan and Uzbekistan - new faces of cooperation

Tatarstan and Uzbekistan have long-standing close relations: education, science, tourism, culture, technology - in each of these areas the republics have achieved certain success and continue to develop cooperation. This is evidenced by the business mission Made in Uzbekistan that opened on December 1 in Kazan. Within the framework of this mission, it is planned not only to present the economic, gastronomic, technical and cultural potential of Uzbekistan but also to establish new channels of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Albert Karimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation Botirzhon Asadov and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan Shamil Ageev took part in the solemn opening of the mission.


"Just yesterday, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed by phone the issues of cooperation between our countries, including the fight against pandemic and the upcoming CIS summit in December. I would like to remind that since January 1, Uzbekistan is the chairman of CIS. The government of Tatarstan also puts cooperation with Uzbekistan on the highest priority level. I am confident that today's event will give us not only new ideas for further joint work but also help us to establish new contacts, develop the already close cooperation between our countries," Karimov said.


In his turn, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation emphasized that today's event is a logical continuation of a large tour of business mission in Russia: "The beginning was laid recently in Samara, where a very rich in program and performance "Green Week", in which our products were presented on a large scale. Separately, I would like to thank the leadership of Russia and the Republic of Tatarstan for their assistance in holding such an event, especially in the current difficult conditions of the pandemic".


Asadov noted, Russia is a large trade partner and investor in the economy of Uzbekistan: "Our long-term close relations between the two republics are based on mutual trust and friendship. And this dialogue is constantly supported and fed from both sides. We cooperate in almost all spheres, from politics, security to tourism and culture. Today in Uzbekistan there are more than 2,000 enterprises with the participation of Russian capital. The trade turnover between the countries is growing, but our leaders have set big ambitious plans before us - to bring it to 10 billion. I think that the business mission will contribute to achieving these goals".


Within the framework of two-day business-mission, it is planned not only to consider perspective branches of cooperation but also to make the more detailed acquaintance of Tatarstan residents and companies with traditional branches of production for Uzbekistan.


On December 2, business-mission will continue its work. In Kazan "Korston" hotel for two days you can get acquainted with products of modern Uzbek manufacturers: here you can find the best samples of ceramics, souvenir products and textiles, dried fruits, juices and sweets, household appliances and construction materials, knives for cutting meat and souvenir copies, samples of the pharmaceutical industry, stands for the Noble Quran. At 15:00 in the ballroom, there will be a fashion show. Within the business program of the business mission there will be panel discussions and round tables, presentations, revealing the expert potential of Uzbekistan and wide opportunities for investment projects, meetings of Uzbek producers with Russian entrepreneurs. For face-to-face or online participation in the business program, it is necessary to preliminary register on the project website.


According to the organizers, the business mission will be attended by representatives of more than 100 export-oriented companies: manufacturers of agricultural products, fur products, footwear, denim and knitwear, household appliances and electronics, equipment for transformer substations, as well as wine companies. Share of export in foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan is increasing every year. In 2019, export reached 13 677,0 million USD, growth rate - 45,5 %.


The objectives of the Made in Uzbekistan project are to demonstrate the production of Uzbek enterprises, increase the export potential of the country and build long-term cooperation with foreign countries. During two years of its existence, business missions were organized to India, Belarus, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. This is the first time the project has been presented in Russia. The organizer of Made in Uzbekistan is the Agency for Export Promotion under the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
