Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant, being constructed with Russia's Rosatom, holds strategic importance for the nation's development, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated during a meeting with Kazakh winners of international academic Olympiads.
"Through innovation and cutting-edge technology, we're laying a solid foundation for our country's growth for decades to come," Tokayev said, as quoted by his press service. "The construction of our first nuclear power plant in partnership with Rosatom carries particular strategic significance. This project, which officially launched days ago, represents more than just energy infrastructure—it's a powerful symbol of scientific and technological progress."
Construction began on August 8 near the village of Ulken, with Kazakhstan's Atomic Energy Agency Chairman Almasadam Satkaliyev and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev attending the groundbreaking ceremony.
