28 July 2022

On Thursday, Turkish Central Bank Governor Sahap Kavcıoglu said that talks with Russia on switching to national currencies for mutual settlements are continuing. He hopes for a positive outcome.

"Our talks on extending Turkish lira and ruble settlements to trade continue. We have passed an important way in this direction," Hürriyet quotes him as saying. Kavcıoglu also announced that Turkey is holding talks with Russia and other countries to conclude swap deals.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a visit to Turkey on June 8 that the process of transition to the national currencies for mutual settlements between the two countries is at an advanced stage. Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are discussing switching to national currencies at the talks. This issue is expected to be the subject of negotiations at the upcoming meeting of the two leaders in Sochi on August 5.
