The question of increasing the number of direct flights between the UAE and Russia may be resolved soon, Moscow and Abu Dhabi are constantly working on it, UAE Ambassador in Moscow Muhammed Ahmed Al-Jaber told TASS.
He noted that increasing direct flights with Russia is a priority for the UAE. "The ministries of air transport of the two countries, as well as specialized agencies are constantly negotiating and consulting on this issue. Of course, the number of direct flights today does not meet the existing demand, due to the increasing number of Russians who want to visit the UAE, as well as UAE citizens who want to come to Russia. I think this issue will be solved soon," the diplomat said.
According to him, the need to increase the number of flights as soon as possible is also caused by the approaching date of Expo 2020, which will start working on October 1.
The ambassador pointed to an increase in the number of tourists from the UAE visiting Russia this year. "In the first quarter of this year, 1,031 UAE citizens visited Russia. It is worth noting that there are many more now," he said. - "UAE citizens like to visit Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan and Grozny."
He pointed out that 19 students from the UAE will study at Russian universities this year. "Currently, a number of other applicants from the UAE are taking entrance exams to Russian universities," the diplomat concluded.
Expo 2020 has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be held in Dubai from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. It is the first world exhibition to be held in the Middle East. Expo 2025 is being prepared to be hosted by Osaka. In late April, Russia was the first country to apply to host Expo 2030. If it wins, the world exhibition will be held in Moscow.
