The situation in Ukraine will lead to serious consequences for global energy and fuel prices in the coming months, Lana Zaki Nuseiba, the UAE permanent representative presiding over the UN Security Council in March, said at a press conference Tuesday, speaking about the topics of Russian President Vladimir Putin's telephone conversation with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy commander-in-chief of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.
"The call took place earlier this morning. The situation in Ukraine was touched upon. We called for de-escalation, as we did in statements to the UN. Of course, since we are one of the major oil producing countries and members of OPEC+, the impact of this crisis on global energy was also discussed. I think in the coming months we will see very serious consequences for the global economy, for the energy sector, for the oil and gas prices that we face every day," she said.
The UAE remains open with all sides of the situation in Ukraine and is ready to help find a diplomatic solution, Nuseiba said.
"Of course, this is an important crisis and we all have to pay attention to it. But at the same time, we must leave room for a diplomatic solution. Right now we are seeing escalation and tension around this subject. But I think some channels must remain open. Those countries that abstained (in the UN Security Council vote on the resolution on the situation in Ukraine: China, the UAE and India - TASS) keep these channels with president [Vladimir] Putin and will use them to help and support as much as they can," she said.
