US Threatens Turkish Banks with Sanctions Over Operations with Russia

19 September

US officials have contacted Turkish financial institutions, warning them of potential sanctions if they continue facilitating transactions with Russia. This information was confirmed by a source in Turkish financial consulting during a conversation with TASS.

The source stated that a US delegation had visited Turkey, issuing “veiled or hidden threats of sanctions” to the country's banks if they maintained relations with Russian entities. However, it remains possible to conduct transactions through Turkish banks, provided that certain conditions are met. This includes providing documents and evidence, as part of a compliance procedure, to prove that the transaction does not violate existing sanctions and restrictions.

In March, the newspaper Aydinlik reported that US embassy and consulate staff in Turkey had visited companies and financial institutions, advising them against conducting business with Russia and threatening sanctions.
