Working Group Formed in Tatarstan to Test Digital Ruble Payments

05 March

A working group has been established in Tatarstan to test digital ruble payments in the republic. The relevant order was signed by Acting Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin.

“In order to pilot digital ruble transactions in the Republic of Tatarstan, a working group is being formed to oversee Tatarstan’s participation in the 'Digital Ruble' project, with its composition approved,” the document states.

The head of the working group will be Tatarstan’s Minister of Finance, Marat Fayzrakhmanov. The group also includes Minister of Digital Development Ayrat Khayrullin and representatives of the region’s banking sector.

In February, Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina announced that the full-scale launch of the digital ruble would be postponed from summer 2025 to a later date. She also noted that around 1,700 citizens and approximately 30 companies are currently participating in the pilot program for the digital ruble.
