The Kazan International Economic Forum (KazanForum) has become a key platform for strengthening Russia's relationships with member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), particularly amid Western sanctions against Russia, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
Speaking at the organizing committee meeting for the event, Khusnullin emphasized that the forum's role is growing. "Today, under the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions and heightened tensions in the Middle East, the forum is tasked with expanding and strengthening Russia's ties with OIC countries," he stated.
Khusnullin highlighted the success of KazanForum 2024, which hosted approximately 20,500 participants from 87 countries and all 87 regions of Russia. Over half of the attending countries sent high-level delegations, including prime ministers, deputy prime ministers, and ministers.
The forum, he noted, reaffirmed that partners from Muslim-majority countries understand Russia’s stance on advocating for a fair and multipolar world order. This was reflected in their openness to constructive cooperation.
Khusnullin noted that KazanForum plays a significant role in fostering trade relations and boosting tourism.
Held from May 14 to 19, 2024, at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Center, the forum focused on topics such as Islamic finance, transportation corridors, and halal industries. More than 120 thematic sessions were conducted with experts from Russia and abroad, and over 120 agreements were signed.
