Lavrov: 1967 Agreements Must Be Considered in Palestinian-Israeli Conflict Resolution

20 October 2023

In the context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Russian Federation remains committed to the UN Security Council resolutions of 1967 and anticipates that these resolutions will be considered in the resolution of the conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made this statement during an interview on the Russia-1 TV channel's "60 Minutes" program.

"As I hope, when reason prevails, and all parties come to the negotiating table, we will need to consider the map and align our practical steps with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. We must also acknowledge the developments that have transpired since 1967," stated the foreign minister.

Lavrov underlined their commitment to the Security Council's resolutions, which remain in force and unaltered. These resolutions call for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The minister emphasized that Israel's unilateral actions to expand what are commonly referred to as settlements violate this resolution, a fact that is widely recognized.
