Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a press conference on the outcomes of Russian diplomacy in 2023 that Russia is actively advising the Taliban (a movement banned in Russia) to include other political forces into their ruling structures.
Lavrov stated that the Russian embassy in Kabul maintains continuous contact with the Taliban, addressing issues crucial for their recognition as a fully legitimate government. He emphasized the importance of the Taliban fulfilling their promises, particularly the establishment of an inclusive government. Lavrov clarified that this inclusiveness should extend beyond ethnic representation, encompassing political diversity. Despite the diverse ethnic composition within the Taliban, including Pashtuns, Uzbeks, Tajiks, and Hazaras, they are primarily identified as Taliban politically. Lavrov stressed that Russia actively recommends the Taliban to invite other political forces into their governing framework.
