Lavrov Criticizes US Diplomacy on Palestinian-Israeli Conflict as Disgusting

24 January

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed strong disapproval of US diplomacy regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict during a UN Security Council open debate on the Middle East situation.

Lavrov stated, "The disingenuousness of US diplomacy, which vetoes ceasefire resolutions and then calls for a reduction in the intensity of hostilities in Gaza, is a source of consternation. Clearly, this gives carte blanche to continue the collective punishment of the Palestinians."

Lavrov highlighted a recent attempt to garner solidarity from the Council through a draft presidential statement demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. However, the US and its allies blocked the document, reinforcing that preserving the lives of peaceful Palestinians is not their priority, according to Lavrov.

The Russian foreign minister underscored the dire humanitarian consequences of such a diplomatic approach.

"Nearly 30,000 civilians have died, including a significant number of women and children. The north of Gaza is almost completely destroyed and uninhabitable. 80% of the entire population of the Strip is internally displaced. A real human tragedy with no end in sight," Lavrov concluded.
