Experts and political scientists from Russia and the Persian Gulf countries will hold an event on security in the region in the near future, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at a press conference following his visit to Saudi Arabia.
"Of course, we talked about the Persian Gulf, about relations between the Arab monarchies and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Russia has been promoting the concept of collective security in this most important region of the world for quite a long time. There are ongoing discussions about this concept. Last autumn, in particular, we hosted a meeting of experts and political scientists from all the coastal countries of the Gulf and a number of neighboring countries, including the Arabs and Iranians, at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was a very fruitful discussion, and it resulted in useful, interesting recommendations, which we are now summarizing," the minister noted.
"And we want to hold another such political and expert event in the near future, which will obviously help to create conditions for the transfer of this dialogue to the interstate level", added the head of the Russian MFA.
