Lavrov: Russia Sees No Reason to Reconsider Goals of Special Military Operation

01 December 2023

Russia sees no reason to reconsider the goals of the special military operation (SMO), according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He made this statement during a press conference following his participation in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE Ministerial Council).

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky previously announced that the Ukrainian military would begin constructing defensive structures on the borders with Russia and Belarus, as well as along the line of contact. When asked if this meant that the Kiev regime had abandoned its invasion plans, Lavrov responded, "We do not see any reason why our goals should be reconsidered." He emphasized that the Russian leadership is clear about its objectives and maintains control over their fulfillment.

Lavrov highlighted that one of the goals of the SMO is to bring the Ukrainian authorities "back to the fulfillment of their own constitution." However, he noted that the decision underlying the Ukrainian state has been "violated and trampled upon many times already."
