Nebenzia Describes US Promises to Ease Sanctions Against Iran as Empty Rhetoric

19 December 2023

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, asserted that Washington's promises to alleviate sanctions pressure on Iran have proven to be mere "empty sound."

"The promises from the Americans to abandon the policy of maximum pressure on Tehran and return to the nuclear deal have proven to be mere empty sound. In fact, the situation is deteriorating," he stated during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

"The chronic violations by the US of the provisions of the JCPOA and Resolution 2231 have been ongoing. Unfortunately, the UN Secretary-General seems to overlook this evident fact in his reports, confining himself to modest appeals to Washington to lift anti-Iran sanctions. Similarly, the report conveniently brushes over the actions of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and the EU, who have been following the misguided example of their overseas counterparts for years," he added.
