Palestine Believes the Root Causes of the Conflict in the Middle East Are Political

17 October 2023

Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the UN, emphasized that it is possible to resolve the Middle East conflict because its root causes are political rather than religious.

"The nature of our conflict is political, not religious, which means it can be resolved," the diplomat stated. He also expressed the belief that Palestine and Israel have the potential to "coexist peacefully and securely" in alignment with international standards.

The permanent observer to the UN stressed the immediate need for the Security Council to demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to "halt the ongoing massacres." He further pointed out, "Over 1 million people have been displaced, and the dire situation has made it difficult for people to properly bury and grieve for their loved ones."
