Peskov: Diplomats Working on Russian Hostage Situation in Gaza Strip

23 October 2023

Russian diplomats are making every possible effort to address the situation involving Russians who are currently held hostage in the Gaza Strip. However, due to the current circumstances, providing detailed information is challenging, as emphasized by Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"Certain contacts are being made for this purpose; our diplomats are actively engaged. Naturally, under the current conditions, it's not easy to provide specific details, but our diplomats are dedicated to making every necessary effort," Peskov stated.

Peskov also pointed out that not all Russians in the Gaza Strip are in direct contact with the Russian mission. He explained, "Communication has been established with some of them, but there are diverse situations. It's important to note that registration is not compulsory; it's a voluntary choice for citizens residing abroad."

According to Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari, the number of hostages held in the Gaza Strip is estimated to be at least 222. The Russian embassy in Israel confirmed to TASS on Friday that at least two Russians are among those held as hostages.
