Putin Affirms Russia's Regained and Strengthened Sovereignty as a Global Power

28 November 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that modern Russia is regaining, strengthening, and expanding its sovereignty as a global power.

"The Russian world encompasses all generations of our ancestors and our descendants who will live after us. It encompasses Ancient Rus', the Tsardom of Muscovy, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and modern Russia, which is regaining, strengthening and expanding its sovereignty as a global power," stated the head of state.

According to the president, sovereignty is, first and foremost, the freedom of the state and its people.

"What does sovereignty mean for our state, for every family, for every person? What is its significance, value, and true essence? It is, first and foremost, the freedom of Russia and its people, and consequently, the freedom of each individual among us," stated the head of state.

Putin clarified that, according to the Russian tradition, a person cannot feel free "unless their loved ones, children, and Fatherland are also free." "This is the true freedom that our compatriots, our men, soldiers, and officers—sons and daughters of the Fatherland—are currently defending," the president said, referring to participants in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

"[This is] a free people who understand their responsibility to today and future generations. The sole source of power. Sovereign power, designed to serve the entire populace, all the people, and not, of course, to serve anyone's private, corporate, class, and certainly not someone else's foreign interests," the head of state continued.

Putin underscored that sovereign development in the national interest is primarily shaped by the individual's desire to contribute to the welfare of the country, society, and people, and Russia supports this aspiration.

The struggle for sovereignty

Putin is confident that the country's struggle for sovereignty carries a national liberation character.

"Our struggle for sovereignty, for justice, undoubtedly carries a national liberation character, as we defend the security and well-being of our people—the inherent historical right to be Russia, a robust, independent power, a civilization-country," the head of state said.

"It is our nation, the Russian world, that, as history has shown many times, has thwarted the ambitions of those who currently seek global dominance and exclusivity," emphasized Putin.

According to the head of state, the Russian Federation is currently fighting for the freedom of the entire world. "We are currently fighting not only for the freedom of Russia but for the freedom of the entire world," he noted.

"We openly declare that the dictatorship of a single hegemon - as we and everyone can see now - is deteriorating, it has fragmented, and is simply perilous for others," pointed out the Russian leader. According to him, "it is already evident to the majority of the world."

As Putin highlighted, Russia "is now at the forefront of shaping a more just world order." The Russian president cautioned, "No lasting, stable world order is possible without a sovereign, strong Russia."
