Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a law for the ratification of the extradition treaty between Russia and Indonesia. The text of the treaty is now available on the official legal information portal.
Under the provisions of this treaty, both Russia and Indonesia are obligated to extradite criminals when a formal request for extradition is made, with the intention of prosecuting and implementing the sentence. Extradition will be considered when the criminal offense is recognized as a crime in both countries and carries a minimum sentence of one year.
However, there are certain circumstances in which extradition may not occur. Extradition will be denied if either nation suspects that the individual is being pursued due to factors such as their race, gender, religion, nationality, or political beliefs. Furthermore, extradition will not be granted if the person faces the death penalty in their home country for the committed offense.
