Russia Prioritizes Relations with Neighboring Countries, Says Putin

29 March

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently discussed relations with Russia’s closest international partners with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.

“When building relations on the world stage, we always say our ties with neighboring countries are the most critical for us — our closest partners, friends and neighbors,” stated Putin.

“This has traditionally been the priority, and the level of trade, economic and political cooperation with our neighbors grows steadily,” -  he elaborated. - "We always proceed from the assumption that these contacts should be mutually beneficial, taking into account each other's interests."

The president suggested examining one of these critical areas, which he described as “very important and traditional.” He then yielded the floor to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for a situational report.

Also attending the meeting were Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council and State Duma Speakers Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, Presidential Administration Head Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergei Naryshkin, and Presidential Envoy for Environmental Protection and Transportation Sergei Ivanov.
