Russian Deputy FM Accuses Western Countries of Efforts to Divide CIS Countries

15 February

During parliamentary hearings in the State Duma, focused on the implementation of Russia's chairmanship of the Commonwealth in  2024, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin claimed that Western countries are actively working to disunite the CIS countries.

Pankin asserted, "Western countries are doing everything to separate us from each other," and pointed out that the West is even deterring CIS partners from taking part in sports events and festivals.

He underscored the importance of demonstrating the benefits of unity among CIS nations, advocating for closer interactions between youth to build trust and mutual understanding, which are essential for effective collaboration.

Additionally, Pankin highlighted the significance of CIS cooperation in security matters, encompassing military security, counterterrorism, combating extremism, drug trafficking, and corruption. He acknowledged that these issues are vital for all CIS members, not just Russia, and that the CIS nations are keenly aware of their susceptibility to internal and external pressures, often instigated by adversaries.
