Russia is urging both Israelis and Palestinians to promptly engage in negotiations to address all outstanding issues. Alexei Zaitsev, the Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Department, made this statement during a briefing.
"Our approach is based on the international legal framework governing the Middle East settlement, encompassing resolutions from both the UN General Assembly and the Security Council," - he stated. - "Without resolving this imperative issue, the prospects for achieving lasting stability in the Middle East region remain in doubt. Therefore, we urge both Israelis and Palestinians to initiate direct negotiations promptly, addressing all contentious matters at hand."
Zaitsev underscored that Russia has consistently maintained a principled stance supporting the establishment of a sustainable and independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully and securely alongside Israel. He stressed, "The ongoing tragic events once again highlight the pressing need for immediate collaborative efforts to create the conditions for a comprehensive negotiation process. We are prepared for this, and we recognize that the majority of our constructive partners share this readiness."
