Malaysia's Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has admitted that he was fined for smoking e-cigarettes at a meeting of Parliament. He said this on Monday, speaking to deputies of the lower house of the legislature.
"I was fined and have already paid the fine, I committed a misdemeanor and apologized," the Star newspaper quoted him as saying. The politician was caught by journalists last week, when the message of the Supreme ruler (king) was voiced in the Parliament.
According to local laws, smoking in public places carries a fine of 250 ringgit ($59.5), in case of refusal to pay the fine increases to 10,000 ringgit ($2.3 thousand) or is punishable by up to two years in prison.
