Military units mutinied in Mali

Located in the suburbs of the capital of Mali, Bamako, army units mutinied, Reuters reports, citing military sources.


"The mutiny started, the military took up arms," it quotes its army interlocutor as saying. There is information about the shelling of the Kati army base in the suburbs of Bamako.


In turn, the Norwegian Embassy in Mali confirmed that the army units located in the suburbs of the capital Bamako have rebelled. "The Embassy has been notified of a mutiny in the Armed forces, troops are on their way to Bamako," the Norwegian Embassy said in a statement. "Norwegian citizens [located in Mali] should exercise caution and stay in their homes whenever possible to clarify the situation."


Mali's anti-government opposition has called for widespread protests to begin on Tuesday. One of its demands is the immediate resignation of the country's President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.
